Former Apple Daily publisher joins mainland China tour for rehabilitated offenders

Translate

A former publisher of the now-defunct Apple Daily newspaper has joined a Hong Kong government-organised mainland study tour for rehabilitated offenders, telling a state-owned broadcaster he felt “very proud” as a Chinese national after experiencing the country’s technological advances first-hand.

Cheung Kim-hung, a key prosecution witness in former media boss and Apple Daily founder Jimmy Lai Chee-ying’s national security trial, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to collude with foreign or external forces to endanger national security.

He was sentenced to six years and nine months in prison and had been expected to remain behind bars until 2028.
