Red Sox Provide Timeline For Aroldis Chapman As He Battles Lat Injury

Boston Red Sox pitcher Aroldis Chapman
The Boston Red Sox have been without Aroldis Chapman for the last five games as he battles a lat injury.
Chapman last pitched on Sept. 13, but the team has noted that they do not think his lat injury is something that will be a long-term issue. He has been an elite closer, once again, for the Red Sox, earning his second straight All-Star nod. The 28-year-old is getting close to making his return, it seems.

"I think we're a day or two away from him being ready to roll," manager Chad Tracy said on Tuesday, per MassLive's Christopher Smith. "We'll see how everything feels today."
Chapman won't be available for Tuesday's game, but the Red Sox's top priority is making sure he's ready for October baseball. In all likelihood, the Red Sox will be playing the New York Yankees in a best-of-three Wild Card Series in the Bronx when the postseason starts on Sept. 29.

Chapman spent seven seasons with the Yankees in his career, so he is very familiar with Yankee Stadium. In his career, opponents hit .168 against him there. He has 88 career saves at Yankee Stadium and a 3.10 ERA. In four innings against the Yankees this season, Chapman has given up three hits and has four strikeouts.
The Red Sox will need Chapman at his best if they want to make a deep run in the postseason.
