3 drown after motorboat sinks in Pangasinan river

CALASIAO, Pangasinan – A motorboat carrying 13 passengers sank in a river coursing through Binmaley town on Saturday, leaving three dead, and whose remains were recovered only on Sunday, the police said.

As the motorboat began cruising the Camaley-Balogo River, water suddenly entered the boat, causing the 13 passengers to panic and jump into the river, 

Nine passengers, including the boat operator, were rescued while three were carried away by the strong current and were declared missing.

The remains of missing passengers Renan Aquino, a resident of Buntong Palay, Marikina City; and Sheryl Castro Soriano Salayog and Rian Soriano, 24, both residents of Barangay Camaley in Binmaley, have been retrieved, the Binmaley Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) said on Sunday. 

Two of them were fished out at around 6 a.m. on Monday in the same area where one victim was found at 9:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Those rescued were boat operator Mark Joseph Maslog Melendez, 28, from Binmaley town; Charles Castro Soriano, 31; Jennilyn Tocayon Salvador, 28; Vincent Soriano Salayog, 20; Ronaldo Solis Salayog, 46; Jaymark Jusgaya Villamil, 18; Jerico Soriano Ramirez, 25; Freddie Castro Soriano, 37: all residents of Brgy. Camaley. 

Also safe were Lawrence Melendez Nisperos, 28; and Gabriel Corichi Viduya, 11; both residents of Brgy. Madayegdeg in San Fernando, La Union./coa
