PSD to review initiatives to improve civil servants’ income

The public services department is reviewing initiatives to improve the income of civil servants, director-general Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz said today.
He said the current salaries of civil servants did not fall below the poverty line, and that they were advised to plan their spending wisely.
“In my view, civil servants earning their current salaries are not below the poverty line; it is simply a matter of how the civil servants themselves manage their expenses.
“At the same time, we are examining any measures that could provide for or further improve civil servants’ income,” he told reporters after officiating the Public Sector Human Resource Management Conference 2026 here.
Wan Ahmad Dahlan also said that salary adjustments for civil servants had already been implemented through the Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA), and any new initiatives would be subject to the country’s financial capacity.
The SSPA, which came into effect on Dec 1, 2024, is a major government initiative that replaced the Malaysian Remuneration System.
It was introduced as a civil service reform to boost staff motivation through a more competitive salary structure and a fairer, more transparent performance assessment process.
