Rangers edge Nasarawa 2-1 in resumed Owerri clash

Defending champions Rangers International recorded their first win of the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League season on Friday, beating Nasarawa United 2-1 in a matchday three fixture that was resumed after rain.

The game, played at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri, was halted in the 63rd minute on Thursday, September 17, when a downpour made continuation impossible. Both sides returned on Friday morning to complete the remaining minutes.

Nasarawa United took the lead in the 39th minute through Sunday Dapman. Chidozie Iwundu levelled for Rangers two minutes later, and Daniel Itodo scored the winner in the 84th minute for the side coached by Fidelis Ilechukwu.

The fixture was moved to Owerri because the Awka Township Stadium was unavailable, as Rangers normally play their home games at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu.

The result lifts Rangers to 8th on the table with four points from two matches. They also have a game in hand on most of their rivals.

Nasarawa United drop to 14th with three points from three games, having won their home opener against Bendel Insurance and lost away to Barau FC.

Doma United lead the table with nine points from three matches, while Barau FC are second with seven.

Both clubs return to action on Sunday, September 20. Rangers travel to Kun Khalifat FC, while Nasarawa United host Rivers United.
