Eight people have died following a fatal collision between an Ivorian passenger bus and a parked Burkinabè bus at Azuletti, near Samenye, along the Elubo–Takoradi Highway.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said its Elubo station rescued 21 passengers following the crash, which occurred on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at about 7:26 p.m.

According to the Service in a post shared on Facebook, the Ivorian-registered bus, with registration number AB-415-AN, was travelling towards Benin when it rammed into the rear of a stationary Burkinabè passenger bus, registered KJA-5604J.

The parked vehicle was reportedly obstructing one lane of the highway, resulting in the collision.

Seven people were pronounced dead at the scene, while another victim later died at the hospital, bringing the death toll to eight.

The 21 rescued passengers, who sustained injuries, were transported to the nearest hospital for medical attention.

The bodies of the deceased were subsequently handed over to the police.

Preliminary investigations suggest that speeding may have contributed to the crash, although further investigations are expected to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
