India might be 3-0 up in the T20I series against New Zealand, but the excitement magnified on Thursday as the likes of Shubman Gill, KL Rahul and other longer-format stars joined the T20 squad in Auckland. A standout moment during the practice session involved India's ODI and Test skipper Shubman Gill as the batter was spotted wearing a cutting-edge, unreleased AI fitness-tracking device called Temple, founded by Deepinder Goyal. Gill quickly put the technology to the test, joining Ishan Kishan and KL Rahul in the nets. Before his session, Gill held extensive conversations with head coach Gautam Gambhir regarding series preparation and squad dynamics.
The Temple device still hasn't hit the market, but there has been plenty of chatter around its use case. Positioned just above the eyes across the forehead, the device, previously seen on badminton star PV Sindhu, is said to monitor cerebral blood flow, nervous system responses, and cognitive stress levels under workload. Though there are other fitness tracking devices such as wrist bands, watches and rings in the market, it isn't yet known how different the 'Temple' device is, in comparison.
According to a report in RevSportz, Gill was wearing the 'Temple' device throughout his practice session in Auckland. The India stalwart hasn't publicly spoken of the intention behind the decision to use the device yet.
ODI Preparations Start For India
India might have won the T20I series already, but the real test begins in the ODI assignment which kicks off on November 04. Former skipper Rohit Sharma has already arrived in Auckland, with Virat Kohli expected to join the squad shortly. With the ODI World Cup taking place in South Africa next year, the conditions in New Zealand are expected to offer India the closest possible test.
Earlier, India's T20I vice-captain Tilak Varma spoke to reporters at the press conference, highlighting a demanding schedule that spanned four continents over four months. He emphasised the physical toll of frequent jet lag and minimal acclimatization time. Despite these hurdles, he reiterated the team's resolve to maintain high standards, noting that Gambhir had urged the side to set a dominant benchmark in the T20Is that carries over to the longer formats. Rather than resting on their laurels, India is aiming for a complete 5-0 series whitewash against the Black Caps.
As the ODI transition gains momentum in Auckland, India remains focused on sustaining their competitive edge across all formats.
