New Industry Minister pledges policy continuity for sector growth

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Newly inaugurated Industry Minister Muhammad Sarmuji has pledged to build upon the work of his predecessor, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, to advance the domestic industrial sector as a major driver of national economic growth and job creation.
Sarmuji delivered the remarks during the handover ceremony in Jakarta on Friday, following his official swearing-in by President Prabowo Subianto at the State Palace the day before.
Commending outgoing minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita for establishing a strong operational base, Sarmuji emphasized that policy continuity paired with fresh innovation will guide his leadership at the ministry.
"We must carry forward what has been achieved and further strengthen the foundations that have been laid," Sarmuji said.
We need to identify every opportunity to elevate the industrial sector into a cornerstone of our national development. Let us focus on opportunities—what can we do to use the industrial sector as a lever for our economic growth?” he added.
The minister highlighted that policy continuity, combined with the courage to introduce new ideas, is crucial for optimal industrial development and elevating the sector into a cornerstone of national growth.
Highlighting the sector's pivotal role in workforce absorption, Sarmuji called for deeper engagement with private industry players, business associations, and external stakeholders to ensure policy decisions align with real-world market demands.
"We all recognize that the industrial sector is vital to this republic. It serves as a pillar and a source of hope for driving economic growth and acting as a catalyst for job creation," he stated.
Internally, Sarmuji called for an open work environment and reduced hierarchical barriers between leadership and staff to foster active dialogue and constructive policy discussions.
He also expressed optimism regarding his partnership with Deputy Minister of Industry Faisol Riza, noting that internal solidarity and strong leadership cohesion will be key to navigating complex industrial challenges moving forward.
