‘The Housemaid’ star Sydney Sweeney has found herself yet again at the centre of a controversial and provocative advertising campaign following her stint with the jeans brand last year. She recently shot a commercial for one of the brands where she is an equity partner; however, she and the brand faced online criticism and backlash for objectifying the actress in the ad.

The star has now seemingly responded to comments about her choices and the ad.

Sydney Sweeney indirectly responds to online hate about her new advertisement

Following the ongoing backlash, Sydney Sweeney shared cryptic posts that might be her way of defending the campaign. Taking to her Instagram, she shared photos of herself from the campaign in the stories section. After a couple of posts, she also shared photos of other celebrities doing similar photoshoots, mainly including sports legends such as Serena Williams, Ronda Rousey, Sue Bird, Megan Rapinoe, Rob Gronkowski, and Jason Kelce, to name a few.The posts seemingly jab directly at the criticism people have been making online for filming an ad with barely any clothing. However, it is not confirmed whether the ‘Madame Webb’ star actually shared the photos to jab at the hate comments.

More about Sydney Sweeney’s controversial ad

Sweeney recently filmed an ad for a sports prediction market and trading platform company that she joined as an equity partner. In the ad, the star stripped down and strategically covered herself with sports equipment, including basketballs, rugby balls, official jerseys, and more.

However, due to the ad's provocative nature, it garnered a lot of attention and critical comments from the masses. One person commented online, “So what is she advertising here?" while another shared, “What the hell was the need to make this kind of commercial?” Another person posted about the matter and wrote in their tweet: “Putting Sydney Sweeney in an ad is the dumbest thing you could do. By the end, I have no idea what product it’s even selling. What is Novig? A coffee machine?”In a statement on the brand’s official website, Sweeney shared the reason she wished to work on the advertising campaign.

She shared, “The campaign was about embracing a fun idea. The concept is simple: cut through the noise and put the focus entirely on sports. The campaign brings that idea to life with confidence, humour, and a playful edge.” In another interview with FOS, the company’s CEO, Jacob Fortinsky, also opened up about Sweeney being their equity partner and starring in their latest ad campaign.

He shared that the actress had been uncomfortable with markets making predictions and assumptions about her personal life. He also commented on how the brand’s idea and focus on sports appealed to her. While in conversation with Complex, Sweeney also admitted that she had been heavily involved in the creative process of the company and the ad from the get-go.
