Perak PKR chairman Hairul Amir sworn in as senator

Perak PKR chairman Hairul Amir Sabri took his oath of office today as a senator representing the state for a three-year term from Sept 10, 2026 to Sept 9, 2029.

Hairul Amir, 38, was sworn in before Dewan Negara president Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah in a ceremony at the Senate here.

He was appointed to fill the vacancy left by Amanah vice-president Mujahid Yusof Rawa, whose term as a senator ended on May 24.

Hairul Amir, who is chief special officer at the office of the Tambun MP, was elected by the Perak state legislative assembly on Sept 10 following a motion tabled by menteri besar Saarani Mohamad under Article 45(1)(a) of the Federal Constitution.

Awang Bemee, in his speech, said Hairul Amir’s experience spanning political leadership, public administration, government relations, community development and corporate governance would bring valuable insights to Senate debates and proceedings.

“His involvement in statutory bodies and GLCs, as well as his roles on independent audit committees and private sector boards, has further broadened his experience in governance, management, accountability and integrity,” he said.

The Dewan Negara will convene for the third meeting of the fifth session of the 15th Parliament from Nov 30 to Dec 22.
