Mofokeng backs Padime to shine for Orlando Pirates

19-year-old winger Mpho Padime is turning heads after debuting for the Betway Premiership champions this term. Despite the club having several wide attacking options, Padime has made cameos off the bench in recent wins over Marumo Gallants, Durban City and Kruger United.

Speaking to SuperSport, Mofokeng singled out Padime’s ability to beat defenders one-on-one and believes he possesses typically South African traits on the pitch.

“I think he’s a very exciting player. He’s very exciting and very skilful,” Mofokeng said.

“When you are watching him, you feel that South African football thing, you remember where you come from because where we come from, we dribble, we entertain people and all that.”

“So, when I look at him, I feel excited because he dribbles while going forward, he wants to do something for the team,” he added.

“And I think if he continues like this he’ll go far because he’s a very good player. He’s got the height, his work rate also speaks for him.

Mofokeng continues to thrive with Union Saint-Gilloise

Rele Mofokeng’s maiden campaign with Union SG has started superbly. He scored the clinching penalty in a shootout win over Club Brugge in the Belgian Super Cup final in July. Rele bagged his first Europa League goal for his new club last in a comfortable 3-0 win over Viktoria Plzen earlier in September. He’s also scored three times in five league outings for a Union SG side that has won six matches on the bounce across all competitions, with Mofokeng claiming an assist against Royal Antwerp in their most recent encounter.
