BN-Pas cooperation in Melaka polls more organised than Negri Sembilan, says Umno sec-gen [WATCH]

MELAKA: Cooperation between the election machinery of Barisan Nasional, Pas and its allies in the Melaka election is more organised and coordinated than during the recent Negri Sembilan polls.

Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the coalitions were focused on securing victory in the Melaka election, with polling scheduled for Nov 14.

"Alhamdulillah, we are continuing the cooperation and consensus established in Negri Sembilan, extending it to Melaka and, Insya-Allah, to Putrajaya.

"Most importantly, this cooperation must be based on sincerity and mutual trust, as its benefits are not for the parties but for the people and the prosperity of the state and country, Insya-Allah.

"This time, things are more organised because we have agreed to work together more closely, including on the manifesto and joint campaign activities," he told reporters at the nomination centre for the Bukit Katil seat at Dewan Tun Ali here.

Asyraf said his visits to all nomination centres showed that the election machinery of BN, Pas and its allies was working hand in hand, with representatives of the respective parties' leadership standing together.

He said the cooperation reflected the people's aspirations to see the coalitions working together.

Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang also described the cooperation between the coalitions as "very good", saying their election machinery had worked closely together across all 28 state constituencies.

"The response has been very good and encouraging, with close cooperation and strong camaraderie between us. Insya-Allah, it will improve further with experience. Insya-Allah, this cooperation will continue all the way to Putrajaya.

"I am satisfied with the local machinery, while those from outside have also come to help. What matters is that we work together and trust one another. The important thing is for us to win," he said.

Meanwhile, PN secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said the coalitions would use the slogan "Muafakat Melaka" in the election, with the cooperation intended to continue under the banner of "Muafakat Malaysia".

"We are using the tagline 'Muafakat Melaka', which will be followed by 'Muafakat Malaysia'," he said.

Earlier, Hadi and Takiyuddin arrived at the nomination centre for the Bukit Katil seat at about 8.30am, accompanied by BN and PN election machinery.
