Haiwaan, starring Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan, started its run on the expected lines. Being a niche crime thriller, it was bound to register a slow start, and that’s exactly what happened. Compared to Akshay’s lowest openers in the post-COVID era, it opened slightly better at the Indian box office, but overall, the number stayed on the lower side. Keep reading for a detailed collection report of day 1!

How much did Haiwaan earn at the Indian box office on day 1?

The Bollywood crime thriller secured a decent showcasing across India despite the strong run of Mirzapur The Movie and Hanuman Ansh. It kicked off its run on a dismal note, with the morning occupancy at 6%. Due to mixed word-of-mouth, it didn’t see a turnaround in the evening and night shows. As a result, the film scored 3 crore net at the Indian box office on day 1, which equals 3.54 crore gross.

In our prediction story, we predicted Haiwaan to open in the 3-5 crore range, and it opened exactly in that range. While such a start is nothing to boast of, it still managed to score better than Akshay Kumar’s lowest post-COVID openers: Mission Raniganj (2.8 crore), Selfiee (2.55 crore), and Sarfira (2.5 crore).

All eyes on the weekend growth

After a start of 3 crore, Haiwaan needs a big turnaround today (day 2) and tomorrow (day 3) to at least pull off a respectable first weekend at the Indian box office. The competition will be stiff as both Mirzapur The Movie and Hanuman Ansh are having a glorious run, but the crime thriller needs to find its target audience to survive through the weekend.

More about the film

Haiwaan is directed by Priyadarshan. It is produced by Venkat K Narayana and Shailaja Desai Fenn under the banner of KVN Productions and Thespian Films. It also stars Boman Irani, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Saiyami Kher, Asrani, and Rajpal Yadav in key roles. The film features Mohanlal in a cameo appearance.
