No ‘hazardous’ areas but Sarawak remains worst hit by haze
There is no area in the country with a “hazardous” Air Pollutant Index (API) reading, due to the haze, as of 9am today, according to the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) portal.
The highest API reading was recorded in Serian in Sarawak with 258, or “very unhealthy”, Bernama reported.
Sarawak is still the worst-hit state, with unhealthy air quality recorded in eight other areas, namely Sri Aman (197), Samarahan (195), Kuching (191), Bintulu (152), Sarikei (151), Samalaju (148), Mukah (118) and Sibu (108).
The APIMS portal also reported moderate readings in 44 areas nationwide and good readings in 14 areas, especially in Peninsular Malaysia.
The heavy rain in several parts of the peninsula until this morning is believed to be the main reason for the clearer skies.
An API reading of 0 to 50 indicates good air quality; 51 to 100 moderate; 101 to 200 unhealthy; 201 to 300 very unhealthy; and 300 and above hazardous.
