Netflix is gearing up for the holiday season in November, with several Christmas movies coming to the platform. For those not quite ready to start celebrating, the streaming service is also releasing a slew of original shows and films, from political thrillers to family-oriented titles. A few older films will also hit Netflix this month, including Insidious, Insidious: Chapter 2, and Insidious: Chapter 3, so there's something for everyone.

The new and returning Netflix originals that have come to define the platform might be the most exciting offerings. Netflix is dropping the gorgeous-looking anime Fool Night, along with the animated Bass X Machina, both of which promise to be unique. For non-animated originals, there’s the Korean film Possible Love, which explores hidden desires, and the series The Body, inspired by hits like Carrie and Mean Girls. Meanwhile, The Empress is back for its final season, wrapping up a story that’s become a favorite with audiences. Black Doves is also returning to Netflix for season 2.

VFX artists still praise the special effects today. Just don’t question the science.
