Two suspects who remain at large following a shootout in Bacoor, Cavite that left five people dead have already been identified, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said Friday.
In an ambush interview, Nartatez said police are now pursuing the two suspects who managed to evade arrest during the operation on Tuesday.
“Yung dalawa (Regarding the two at-large suspects), police are now hot on the trail of these two suspects. They were already identified,” Nartatez said in an ambush interview.
Five of the seven suspected members of the Gapos Gang syndicate were killed in the armed encounter with the Bacoor City Police on Tuesday in Barangay Molino.
The suspects were allegedly members of a robbery group that had been under police surveillance for its involvement in several robbery incidents and other crimes.
According to the police, the group had planned to enter a subdivision or residential area while posing as security guards.
The group allegedly intended to rob a businessman believed to be keeping valuable items and a substantial amount of money at his residence.
Police chased the suspects as they fled aboard a car and a motorcycle after they were spotted lurking near their target subdivision around noon. The sedan overturned during the chase.
Two of the five suspects killed in the shootout with cops were former police officers, according to the PNP.
Nartatez said investigators will also determine whether the suspects were involved in other criminal activities in the past.—LDF, GMA News
