Satnam Singh and Salman Khan secured a bronze medal for India at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games after finishing third in the men’s double sculls final on Thursday.The Indian pair clocked 6:13.25, with China’s Yi Xudi and Nie Yide taking gold and Uzbekistan’s Mekhrojbek Mamatkulov and Pavel Sorin claiming silver.Satnam and Salman stayed in second place at the 500m, 1000m and 1500m marks and at one stage were just half a second behind the Chinese pair. However, they slipped back in the final stretch to settle for bronze.The Indians finished 3.48 seconds behind the gold medallists and 2.76 seconds behind the silver medallists.

In the men’s singles sculls final, Balraj Panwar missed out on a medal after finishing fourth.Balraj held second position at the 500m, 1000m and 1500m marks and entered the final 500m with a five-second advantage over Japan’s Tatsuya Sakurama.

However, he was overtaken by Sakurama and Uzbekistan’s Shakhboz Kholmurzaev in the closing stages.Balraj clocked 6:54.80, finishing eight seconds behind Sakurama and 15 seconds behind gold medallist Zhiwei Deng of China.Indian wushu player Naorem Roshibina Devi also settled for silver after losing the women’s sanda 60kg final 0-2 to China’s Zhang Xiaoyu. Zhang won both rounds 5-0 to claim the gold medal. Roshibina has now won silver medals at two consecutive Asian Games, having also lost the 2022 Hangzhou Games final to China’s Xiaowei Wu.Roshibina’s silver took India’s overall medal tally at the ongoing Games to 14, comprising one gold, six silvers and seven bronzes.
