Former Coronation Street star Nicola Thorp announces baby news

Former Coronation Street actor turned broadcaster and activist Nicola Thorp has announced some exciting baby news.

The star shared a photoshoot to her Instagram of herself with her baby, with husband Nikesh Patel and her daughter popping up in a few of the pictures.

"Sparking pregnancy rumours…" she wrote in the caption.

Plenty of famous faces left comments on the post, including Nathalie Emmanuel, who wrote "Awwww", and Carol Vorderman, who said: "Mahoosive congratulations missus xxx".

"V exciting. I know my god daughter will make the best big sister," Sue Cleaver said, while Varada Sethu said "Omg you look beautiful!!!! Congrats".

Melvin Odoom, Dermot O'Leary, Paul Gorton, Oti Mabuse, Kym Marsh and Clara Amfo were among the other celebrities who sent the star some love on the post.

Thorp played Nicola Rubinstein on the ITV soap between 2017 and 2019, with the character departing Weatherfield after her serial killer dad Pat Phelan went on one final rampage and she was accidentally shot (it wasn't fatal).

Since 2019, Thorp has featured as a regular contributor on ITV's This Morning, and has also gotten involved with politics and activism, using her platform to speak about feminine sanitary products and humanitarian crises.

In response to a comment on her pregnancy post, Thorp stated that she wouldn't be slowing down her work all that much, stating: "I'm barely mat leave."

Thorp and The Devil's Hour actor Patel first started dating in 2021. They got engaged in 2023 and both married and welcomed their daughter in 2024.

The couple competed together in a season of Celebrity Hunted. Unfortunately, Patel had to start late due to having COVID, while Thorp was the first person caught.

Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
