Vlamo restaurant video: Zim businessman under investigation

Zimbabwean businessman Lawrence Chamurwa Mudzingayima is facing an investigation after his threats to “murder” a group of women at popular Sandton restaurant, Vlamo, went viral.

In the clip, the tenderpreneur reacted angrily after his alleged romantic advances were rejected.

A case of intimidation has been opened against him. The Department of Transport is also looking into claims that his engineering and construction company was lawfully awarded a R107 million tender with SANRAL.

VLAMO VIDEO: CASE OF INTIMIDATION OPENED AGAINST ZIM BUSINESSMAN

In a video that has gone viral on social media, a man, who claimed to be a wealthy businessman, threatened to physically harm a group of women.

During the incident, which took place in Vlamo restaurant’s “powder room”, the man – identified as Zimbabwean businessman Lawrence Chamurwa Mudzingayima –  angrily reacted to the women who had allegedly rejected his romantic advances.

He said: “I will put a bullet in you now, I will murder you now and walk. I can buy this restaurant and own it. You can say no in a nice way.

“I’m a wealthy man. You guys are poor ladies”.

The man was escorted off the premises after the restaurant owner intervened. Vlamo also released a statement, condemning the man’s actions.

The video has attracted widespread backlash, with many calling on the man to face accountability.

In the latest development, the owner of Vlamo restaurant, Mun Manal, confirmed that he had opened a case of intimidation against the businessman.

The Gauteng Provincial Investigation Unit is investigating a case of intimidation. The suspect has been identified as a tenderpreneur, Lawrence Chamurwa Mudzingayima, on social media.

DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORT WANTS ANSWERS TOO

Following the Vlamo viral video, the engineering and construction company belonging to Lawrence Chamurwa Mudzingayima – Moriel Infrastrucion Group – has also come under scrutiny over a R107 million tender awarded by the South African National Roads Agency (SANRAL)

In an X post on the official account of the Department of Transport, Minister of Transport Barbara Creezy instructed the SANRAL board to investigate if the company had lawfully acquired the tender. 

SANRAL confirmed that it would comply with the investigation.

Meanwhile, the website of the company owned by the Zim businessman, as well as his LinkedIn account, have been disabled.
