YEA to deploy 6,000 community teaching assistants by November – Basintale

The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) plans to onboard and deploy 6,000 community teaching assistants by the end of November 2026 under an agreement with the Ghana Education Service (GES).

Chief Executive Officer Malik Basintale announced the plan when he addressed the Government Accountability Series at the Jubilee House on Wednesday, October 21.

He said the Agency signed a memorandum of understanding with the GES in September to facilitate the recruitment and deployment of the beneficiaries, who are expected to support basic schools, particularly in hard-to-reach communities.

The initiative is designed to provide additional teaching support where needed while giving qualified young people practical classroom experience and an opportunity to develop their professional skills.

“In this regard, I am happy to report that as recently as September this year, the YEA had signed a successful Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ghana Education Service for the onboarding of some 6000 beneficiaries, who will be deployed by the end of November this year,” Mr Basintale said.

The programme is among the Agency’s interventions aimed at combining employment creation with support for essential public services.

Mr Basintale said the YEA’s broader mandate was to work with other institutions to provide training, workplace attachment and skills development rather than directly employ beneficiaries into mainstream public and private sector positions.
