A Bauchi-based foundation, Wunti Al-Khair Foundation, has trained 30 youths in digital skills to promote employment, entrepreneurship and job creation in the state.

The graduates were trained under the Bala Wunti Tech Fellowship Cohort Two, an initiative aimed at equipping young people with technology skills and preparing them for opportunities in the digital economy.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony on Saturday, the foundation’s Director of Programmes, Mustapha Ango, said the fellowship was designed not only to train young people in technology but also to empower them to create opportunities for others.

Ango said, “The fellowship is designed not merely to train young people in technology but also to empower them to create opportunities for others through innovation, enterprise development and practical solutions to societal challenges.”

He said the programme had expanded from 20 fellows in its first cohort to 30 graduates in the second cohort, reflecting the foundation’s commitment to technology education and youth empowerment.

According to him, the initiative seeks to bridge the gap between digital skills acquisition and practical experience by exposing participants to industry opportunities and platforms where they can demonstrate their abilities.

“The fellowship demonstrates the importance of connecting digital skills training with practical experience, industry exposure and platforms where young innovators can test their abilities and showcase their potential,” he said.

Ango explained that the programme remained an important vehicle for advancing the vision of the foundation’s founder, Dr Bala Wunti, to build a technologically strong Bauchi State.

He said, “Our vision is to build a technologically strong Bauchi State where young people are not merely consumers of technology but also skilled professionals, innovators, entrepreneurs and job creators capable of driving economic growth and development.”

The graduating fellows completed a technology-focused learning programme that included diploma certification from AltSchool Africa, alongside exposure to opportunities in the technology and innovation sectors.

Their experiences included participation in GITEX Nigeria, attendance at a technology boot camp in Abuja and performances at HackJos 2025, where teams of the fellows secured first, second and fourth positions.

Ango said the achievements demonstrated the potential of young people in Bauchi to compete, innovate and contribute to the development of the technology ecosystem.

He expressed optimism that the graduates would use the skills and experience acquired through the fellowship to advance their professional careers and contribute to the development of the state’s technology sector.

The Bala Wunti Tech Fellowship is an initiative of the Wunti Al-Khair Foundation aimed at developing young technology talent and expanding opportunities for digital skills development, innovation, employment and entrepreneurship among young people in Bauchi State.

Through structured learning and exposure to emerging technology opportunities, the fellowship seeks to strengthen the state’s digital ecosystem.
