Phoebe Bridgers Joins Bright Eyes for “Lua” in Nashville: Watch

Translate

Phoebe Bridgers joined Bright Eyes during their concert at the Brooklyn Bowl in Nashville on Monday night, performing guest vocals on the band’s 2005 song “Lua.”

Wearing a Black Sabbath t-shirt and singing with her hands behind her back, Bridgers provided the first verse of the I’m Wide Awake, It’s Morning track next to Conor Oberst; after Oberst took the second verse, they joined together in the chorus, with Bridgers harmonizing over Oberst’s shaky baritone. Following a trumpet solo, Oberst and Bridgers each traded verses once more and closed out the song together. Watch fan-captured clips of the performance below.

“Lua” was originally performed solo by Oberst on I’m Wide Awake, It’s Morning, but he subsequently recorded it as a duet with Gillian Welch for the 2009 benefit compilation Dark Was the Night. A decade later, Oberst linked with Bridgers to form a duo, Better Oblivion Community Center; they released one self-titled album back in 2019. The two reunited for one of Oberst’s shows in Los Angeles in 2024, busting out “Lua” as well as “My City” and “Double Life.”

Both Oberst and Bridgers happened to be on tour in Nashville this week, with Bridgers busting out their Better Oblivion Community Center track “Chesapeake” for the first time in three years at her show at the Bridgestone Arena on Sunday (albeit as a duet with collaborator Christian Lee Hutson). She’s got a handful of tour dates left in support of her great new album, Lost Weekend; get tickets to see Bridgers here.

Bright Eyes, meanwhile, are closing out their fall 2026 tour, which features support from the reunited Omaha band Lullaby From the Working Class. Still to come are shows in New Orleans, Austin, Dallas, Kansas City, and St. Louis. Find tickets to see Bright Eyes here.
