Editor's note: The below contains spoilers for Nobody Wants This Season 3.

Nobody Wants This largely embraced the rom-com formula through Noah (Adam Brody) and Joanne's (Kristen Bell) romance. Between their conflicting beliefs, pasts, and future plans, the two had plenty to work out over the first two seasons, giving audiences plenty of reasons to tune in. Their storyline is still ongoing in the recently released Season 3, and now that they've moved in together, Joanne and Noah have found an equilibrium of sorts. However, their relationship progress doesn't mean Season 3 is lacking in drama. In fact, Nobody Wants This has officially shifted its successful formula enough to focus on other characters.

Season 3 introduces a new, seemingly star-crossed romance by highlighting Joanne and Noah's respective siblings, Morgan (Justine Lupe) and Sasha (Timothy Simons). While the pair slowly developed a friendship in previous seasons, the series' return grows their connection further. Though fans are divided over their relationship potential, this formula change is exactly what Nobody Wants This needs, adding variety to the story while staying true to the show's original rom-com genre.

'Nobody Wants This' Season 3 Puts Sasha and Morgan at the Center

Nobody Wants This has always been centered around Joanne and Noah's relationship. Although the people in their lives have played significant roles, the story to date has primarily focused on their journey, both individually and together. Joanne and Noah break up and get back together in Seasons 1 and 2, and that storyline only works so many times. With the on-again-off-again dynamic growing repetitive for Nobody Wants This' main couple, Season 3 avoids the issue by giving a will-they-won't-they tension to Morgan and Sasha. The change allows Joanne and Noah to progress in their own way, with Joanne converting to Judaism and the two getting engaged.

Morgan and Sasha's storyline fits right into the existing plot as it doesn't take the focus very far from Noah and Joanne, but it also infuses Nobody Wants This with fresh romantic energy. This time, it's not different beliefs or their families' disapproval that keeps Morgan and Sasha from becoming an official couple, but the mutual value of their existing friendship. While this change is already much-needed, it also opens new avenues for the show to explore in future seasons, especially since Noah and Joanne aren't on board with their siblings dating.

'Nobody Wants This' Season 3 Changes Everything Between Morgan and Sasha

Nobody Wants This' newest romance works because of the dynamic Morgan and Sasha already share. Over the first two seasons, the characters have unexpectedly become close friends, joking together, supporting each other, and offering advice. When Sasha separates from his wife, Esther (Jackie Tohn), it's natural that he develops a crush on Morgan. However, their friendship complicates the budding connection. While the friends-to-lovers storyline can be a fan-favorite trope, Morgan and Sasha's storyline goes deeper than that. Having had similar life experiences, the pair can understand each other in a way few others can. Sasha deals with the end of his marriage, and Morgan's past divorce allows her to relate. While not every fan is sold on their romance, Season 3 makes a strong case for the couple, especially through their New York trip in Episode 7, which is a rom-com in and of itself.

Though Nobody Wants This Season 3 dedicates plenty of time to Morgan and Sasha, the show isn't committing fully to them as a couple yet. Despite sleeping together after their trip to New York, they can't overcome the existing obstacles to their potential romance. At first, both are afraid to ruin their friendship, but even after Morgan pours out her feelings, Sasha rejects her. His feelings for Esther add another layer of complexity, but his refusal strains his existing friendship with Morgan. Whether you've been rooting for them or not, Nobody Wants This exploring Sasha and Morgan's relationship more thoroughly is exactly what the show needs to give the story life beyond Season 3.
