‘Nigeria battling foundational problems’

The Ikeja Chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria in Lagos State has described the challenges facing the country as foundational.

According to the association, the country is battling problems created during the colonial era by the British Empire, adding that prayer is necessary to address the situation.

The CAN Coordinator for the chapter, Evang. Rotimi Ajayi, stated this during a prayer session for the country in Lagos on Friday.

Quoting Psalm 11:3, Ajayi said the country was previously ranked alongside strong developing nations such as Malaysia, but has now fallen behind.

He said, “Once a house is built on sand, when erosion comes, that house is bound to fall. That is why we are organizing this prayer session—so that the foundation can be restored and rebuilt. I believe we will see progress after this session.”

Also speaking, the ministering pastor, Bishop Bola Oyegbami, said theories and policies could not work unless the foundation was repaired, adding that things would naturally fall into place for the country if God were involved.

Oyegbami also attributed the country’s challenges to the excessive pursuit of wealth.

“In Nigeria, we have a lot of problems. These problems started with the spirit of mammon. Everything is all about money everywhere you go. So, it is the foundation we are dealing with,” she said.
