Marcos birthday caravan delivers gov’t services, aid in Ilocos Sur

VIGAN CITY, ILOCOS SUR, Philippines — Residents in this province availed themselves of free government services and assistance programs at the CHAVIT Coliseum here on Monday, Sept. 14, as part of activities marking President Marcos’s birthday.

Dubbed “Handog ng Pangulo: Serbisyong Sapat Para sa Lahat,” the annual initiative brought together national government agencies and provincial offices to provide residents with government services, financial assistance, and livelihood support.

The event was held a day after Marcos’ birthday on Sept. 13.

Among the assistance distributed were agricultural inputs, livestock, farm tools and equipment from the Department of Agriculture; operations and maintenance subsidy checks for irrigators’ associations from the National Irrigation Administration; and TUPAD wages and livelihood assistance from the Department of Labor and Employment.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development also distributed the second tranche of cash assistance under its Unified Package for Livelihood, Industry, Food, and Transport (UPLIFT) program.

During the event, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) distributed checks under its AKSYON Fund, while the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation released indemnity checks. The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources provided fishery inputs, and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration extended financial assistance to beneficiaries.

The provincial government also distributed rice through the government’s Local Government Support Fund program.

The event was attended by government officials, including DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac, DMW Assistant Secretary Jerome Alcantara, DMW Regional Director Christian Rey Sison, Department of Social Welfare and Development Regional Director Marie Angela Gopalan, Ilocos Sur Gov. Jeremias Singson, and Vice Gov. Ryan Luis Singson. /cb
