Lena Dunham and Carly Rae Jepsen’s 10 Things I Hate About You Musical to Debut on Broadway in 2027

Lena Dunham and Carly Rae Jepsen’s new musical adaptation of 10 Things I Hate About You is officially heading to Broadway in 2027.
The project, which was announced back in April 2025, will begin preview performances exactly one year from today on August 17th, 2027. An adaptation of Gil Junger’s 1999 teen comedy starring Julia Stiles, Heath Ledger, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt — itself a loose adaptation of Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew — the new musical will feature a book from Dunham and Jessica Huang and music and lyrics from Jepsen and Ethan Gruska. It’ll be directed and choreographed by Christopher Wheeldon, with Broadway vet Tom Kitt overseeing music supervision, arrangements, and orchestrations.
Per Variety, the logline of the “rebellious” new musical describes it as a story about “growing up, discovering yourself, and refusing to live by others’ expectations. Amid the crushes, cliques and teenage angst, two sisters set out to define themselves on their own terms.” The exact theater, opening night, and cast for the project have yet to be revealed.
10 Things I Hate About You will be Jepsen’s first musical, though it’s not her first foray into Broadway; she previously made her Broadway debut in 2014 as the title role in Rodgers + Hammerstein‘s Cinderella. It’s a busy season at the moment for Jepsen, who is gearing up for the September 18th release of her new double album Day and Night. She’ll also perform a special set at All Things Go in New York City next month.
