It's been over a year since Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent debuted in the United States, and now the season 2 premiere date has just been announced.
In recent years, the Dick Wolf-created Law & Order franchise has expanded with non-U.S. versions like Law & Order UK and Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent. The latter series is based on the similarly titled Law & Order: Criminal Intent, which aired for 10 seasons from 2001 to 2011.
The Canadian adaptation premiered on Citytv in 2024, with The CW airing it in the U.S. beginning in September 2025.
Now U.S. Law & Order fans will be able to continue watching Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent when The CW premieres season 2 on Monday, October 5 at 9 p.m. EDT, following the series premiere of Private Eyes West Coast at 8 p.m. EDT.
The show will now be airing on Mondays instead of Wednesdays. Its former timeslot sparked concern among Law & Order fans last year.
Aden Young and Kathleen Munroe are back as Detective Sergeants Henry Graff and Frankie Bateman as they continue investigating high-profile homicides based on real-life headlines in Canada.
They'll be joined by Karen Robinson (as Inspector Vivienne Holness), K.C. Collins (Deputy Crown Attorney Theo Forrester, Nicola Correia-Damude (Dr. Lucy Da Silva) and Araya Mengesha (tech expert Mark Yohannes).
Tassie Cameron is the showrunner of Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent and also serves as an executive producer with Erin Haskett, Amy Cameron, David Valleau, Alex Patrick and Wanda Chaffey.
Throughout its run on the air so far, Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent has received several nominations at the Canadian Screen Awards, winning for Best Drama Series in 2025.
The series does not air simultaneously in Canada and the United States. There's always a delay in its U.S. airing. In Canada, Citytv already aired the third season this spring, while U.S. audiences will only just be getting season 2 this fall.
Back in May 2025, The CW announced it had acquired the first two seasons of Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent. So far, the network hasn't revealed its plans for the third season. Executives may be waiting to see how the ratings hold up for season 2 this fall before deciding.
Speaking of acquisitions, The CW has increasingly relied on cheaper content in recent years after Nexstar bought a majority stake in the network. Game/variety shows like Scrabble, Trivia Pursuit and Totally Funny Animals have become more common, along with sporting events and imported series like Wild Cards and Sullivan's Crossing.
The original Law & Order: Criminal Intent may have ended in 2011, but the U.S. branch of the Law & Order franchise is still going strong with Law & Order: SVU and Law & Order, which are about to debut their 28th and 26th seasons on October 8.
The most recent spinoff, Law & Order: Organized Crime with Christopher Meloni, was canceled earlier this year after only five seasons.
Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent season 2 premieres Monday, October 5 at 9 p.m. EDT on The CW.
