#SHOWBIZ: Misha Omar's showcase to honour men who have shaped her life

IN what feels like an exciting chapter in her storied career, powerhouse vocalist Misha Omar is inviting fans to experience a different side of her artistry.
Her upcoming intimate performance, "Showcase Aku & Lelaki", is set to take place at JioSpace on Oct 24.
Far from a typical live gig, this exclusive performance explores the delicate balance of masculine and feminine energy in everyday life.
It also gives the 45-year-old songstress a chance to put her own distinct spin on famous tracks originally popularised by the male artists she admires most.
For Misha, the central theme is a heartfelt tribute to the men who have shaped her life and musical journey — from her husband and late father to the iconic male singers who continue to inspire her.
She noted that fans often praise her cover songs for bringing a fresh perspective to familiar classics, which ultimately gave her the confidence to tackle a full setlist of tracks originally performed by men.
"People often tell me that when I cover other artistes' songs, I manage to give them a completely fresh touch," Misha said during a recent media interview.
"My journey in the music industry as a strong woman has always been supported by extraordinary men. I have my husband and late father. I think that's true for every woman out there — no matter who we are, there are always men in our lives offering support."
A TRIBUTE TO ICONS
Misha explained that the concept was also born out of deep admiration for several male legends who have invited her to share the stage over the years.
"I admire many male singers. I've been fortunate enough to be invited by legendary male performers to appear at their concerts. Among them are Datuk M. Nasir and Datuk Jamal Abdillah. I am also close to Anuar Zain and we share a similar taste in music.
"I also deeply admire Indonesian artistes like Afgan, who has been a massive inspiration. Working with him sparked so much of my creativity."
Because of this, the showcase was carefully curated to mirror the songs by male singers who have left an indelible mark on her.
"So many male singers have inspired me to keep creating and become the artiste I am today. I chose songs from these exact artistes for the performance.
"We are testing the waters because it's usually quite tricky for a female singer to adapt to male keys and arrangements. But I am taking on the challenge to give each track the signature Misha Omar touch.
"We don't always have to stick to the standard routine of releasing studio albums. Doing a showcase like this adds a whole new dimension."
Misha said the event offers a chance to connect with her fans in a more personal setting while taking them on a nostalgic trip down memory lane.
"I know my fans want to meet me and enjoy moments of nostalgia listening to songs they know so well. At the same time, I am trying to reframe these works to show another strong side of myself as an entertainer."
MILESTONE CONCERT ON HOLD
Misha confirmed that her original plan to mark her 25th anniversary with a solo concert next year has been shelved.
She revealed that while her grand dream is to celebrate her quarter-century milestone in a stadium, she has to take the country's packed national schedule into account.
"Next year was supposed to be very special for me as I mark 25 years in the music business. I've always loved doing year-end concerts, and my dream was to hold one in a stadium.
"However, given the lineup of national events next year, including the SEA Games, I believe there are bigger priorities for the nation. While I really want to celebrate with my fans, I would prefer to pick a quieter period when there aren't major events happening simultaneously. So, we are putting it on hold for now.
"There won't be an anniversary concert next year, even though I had mentioned it to friends and on social media," Misha clarified.
"It's fine — we will just wait another year. For now, I'm just grateful that we can gather through this upcoming show."
A STAR-STUDDED PRODUCTION
"Showcase Aku & Lelaki" promises to take the audience on an emotional journey of love, loss, longing, joy and hope.
Alongside refreshed renditions of her own chart-topping hits, Misha will deliver her bespoke take on iconic songs by male artistes from Malaysia, Indonesia, and beyond.
Music director Ee Jeng will oversee the musical arrangements and live sound, while industry veteran Jennifer Thompson takes charge of show direction.
"Showcase Aku & Lelaki" is organised by Double M Productions, with concert management handled by Altus Prohouse.
