Ronaldo doubtful for Portugal vs Denmark UEFA Nations League match: Reports

Cristiano Ronaldo is a doubt for Portugal’s UEFA Nations League match against Denmark on Thursday, with reports suggesting that he is not happy with newly appointed head coach Jorge Jesus.

The 41-year-old was left on the bench during Portugal’s 2-1 win against Norway on Sunday, with AC Milan’s Goncalo Ramos taking his place in attack.

The Portuguese Football Federation said that the all-time leading scorer in men’s international football has not practised with the team since the previous game, instead only doing work in the gym.

The media has reported that the Portuguese football chief Pedro Proenca met with Ronaldo to discuss lack of game time, with the federation confirming that Proenca was with the squad in Sweden, where it is currently training.

Jesus took over the squad from Roberto Martínez after the World Cup and said he planned to give the talisman some minutes against Norway, but the circumstances of the match kept him from being used. Another reason for his exclusion could be the long international break during which Portugal will play four games in 11 days.

Portugal leads Group A4 of the Nations League with six points from two matches, three points more than Denmark and Norway, while Wales sits last with zero points. Portugal will host Norway on Sunday in its last fixture of the international window.
