Spanish racers Fernando Alonso and Carlos Sainz had a home race to forget at the Spanish Grand Prix at the new ‘Madring’ circuit.

The two collided on track while fighting for position and it led to an angry rant on the radio from the two-time World Champion.

“He squeezed me into the wall,” Alonso said. “[At] the start, he crashed into two people; now he squeezed me into the wall on breaking.”

The Williams driver received a five-second time penalty for the incident and was eventually forced to retire from the race with an issue. Alonso finished 17th carrying damage from the clash and continued his angry response to the incident after the race.

“At 340 kph, I’d rather no one squeeze me against the wall. I’d rather be alive at the end of the race,” Alonso said.

I didn’t touch anyone, I was a centimeter from the wall and someone came and sent me into the wall at 340 kph,” he added.

Sainz, however, defended his action that preceded contact between the two cars and said Alonso forced the stewards to punish him with his explosive radio messages.

“There isn’t much to say. It’s the nature of the corner when you turn,” Sainz said. “The nature of that corner is always going to cause these kinds of incidents, because there’s only room for one car.”
