Bomb threat prompts FEU Manila to suspend classes

MANILA, Philippines — Classes at Far Eastern University (FEU) Manila were suspended late Wednesday, Sept. 23, as a precautionary measure following a reported bomb threat.

In an advisory released at 8:20 p.m., the university’s Manila campus announced the suspension after reportedly receiving a bomb threat.

“Students, faculty, employees, and support staff are advised to evacuate the campus calmly and in an orderly manner and follow the instructions of security personnel,” it said in the advisory.

The university said its Safety and Security Office had already coordinated with the appropriate authorities regarding the situation. It also conducted necessary security procedures to secure the premises and validate the reported threat.

As of 10:25 p.m., the campus was cleared of any threats and deemed safe for normal operations following the inspection conducted by the Philippine National Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Canine Unit.

The university announced that classes will resume on Thursday, Sept. 24. 

It added that it will continue to closely coordinate with the authorities to determine the origin of the threat.
