The white-ball job is done. Now comes the test of patience.
After sweeping Australia 3-0 in the Youth ODI series, India U-19 will switch formats when the multi-day series begins at the Niranjan Shah Stadium on Sunday, with captain Yashbardhan Singh Chauhan and his deputy Lakshya Raichandani carrying plenty of confidence into the red-ball challenge.
Yashbardhan was one of India’s most consistent performers in the ODIs, signing off with a century after having already made a fifty earlier in the series. Lakshya, meanwhile, found his rhythm at just the right time, following two quiet outings with an unbeaten century in the final Youth ODI.
The two will now have to adapt to a format that demands a different kind of discipline, requiring a longer stay at the crease and greater emphasis on patience.

The squad, too, has a slightly different look than the one that swept the white-ball series. Aaryavir Sehwag and Anvay Dravid, who featured prominently in the ODIs, are not part of the multi-day group. Wicketkeeper-batters Manav Krishna and Abhipray Biswas are among those in the 15-member squad, while Sagar Virk, Kushagra Ojha, Manal Chauhan and Kush Patel add batting options.
On what could be another flat deck, pacers Ayaan Akram, Pranav Ragavendra, Mohit Ulva will be tested over the longer format.
Australia, beaten comprehensively in the ODIs, will be looking for a response. Its batters showed glimpses of resistance during the series, but India’s attack repeatedly found ways to break through. The visitor will now have more time to settle in and put their technique under the microscope.
The 3-0 series sweep has set the tone. Now India must start again.
