Ayush Verma won gold in the men’s shot put F53 event at the ongoing Asian Para Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, on Wednesday.

This is India’s 10th gold medal of the ongoing iteration of the Games, and ninth in athletics alone.

Moreover, this is Ayush’s second medal in Japan after he won bronze in the men’s javelin throw F53/F54, sharing the podium with compatriot Pradeep Kumar, who won silver.

Ayush clinched gold in the shot put event with a best throw of 8.16m. Iran’s Alireza Hemami took silver with 8.09m, while Kazakhstan’s Makhambet Serikkaliyev bagged bronze with 6.81m.

The F53 class is for those with physical impairment, and sees the athletes seated while throwing.

Hailing from Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut, Ayush’s journey in para sports began in 2020 when he started pursuing shot put under coach Robin Kumar.
