Police have charged a 23-year-old man with manslaughter after an investigation into the death of his five-week-old baby son in August.

The man allegedly inflicted serious injuries on the infant at a residence in Kiara, in Perth's north-east, on August 10.

He was taken to a nearby medical centre, before being taken by ambulance to Perth Children's Hospital.

The boy died on August 15 as a result of his injuries.

The 23-year-old man was arrested at a home in Katanning yesterday, and has been charged with manslaughter and assaulting a woman aged in her 20s who was known to him.

Both incidents are being treated as family violence related.
