KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 19 —  The drug trafficking case near a place of worship close to the Sentul District Police Headquarters (IPD), recounted in the @Sembangohhyeahh podcast, dates back to 2016.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said three police reports were lodged in connection with the case on July 12, 2016.

Fadil said his department had detected a video from the podcast that went viral this morning. The video featured a journalist recounting an undercover assignment to expose drug trafficking activities in the area, while claiming that no action had been taken.

“Based on further checks, the podcast content was a retelling of a guest’s journalism experience that occurred in 2016,” he said in a statement today.

Fadil said such publicity was unwarranted as it could create a negative public perception of the police and affect the force’s image and credibility.

He added that all parties must exercise greater care and responsibility when sharing or disseminating information to the public.

“The police are committed to continuously preserving integrity and public trust in the policing institution for the safety and well-being of the nation,” he said. — Bernama
