A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2 release window finally confirmed

HBO has finally revealed when Game of Thrones prequel A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will return – and it's sooner than you might think.

Based on George RR Martin's Dunk and Egg novellas and set roughly a century before the events of Game of Thrones, the series follows courageous knight Ser Duncan the Tall and young squire Egg – who is far more than he initially appears.

The series earned rave reviews from critics when it premiered at the start of the year, with many noting it was a welcome change of pace from the darker, more grandiose stories of Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon.

A renewal for season 2 swiftly followed, with a quicker turnaround expected owing to the show's relative lack of CGI and shorter runtime. Now, we know to expect A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms to return in the first half of 2027.

Given that the eligibility period for next year's Emmys ends on 31 May 2027, it's possible that the show will aim to be back on screens before then – but that's just speculation for now.

Despite the success of both House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, Bloys told Deadline that there is "nothing else" currently planned for the Game of Thrones franchise on HBO or HBO Max.

Showrunner Ira Parker has previously committed to the same first half of 2027 release window, indicating the schedule is locked in. Filming wrapped on season 2 last month, with Parker calling it a "brutal" shoot.

"The biggest part has been this weather," he explained to THR. "We had to go somewhere for some heat and dryness because book two takes place in a drought... the place we chose to shoot our drought in got a once-in-a-100-year storm.

"It kept getting water, and we got rained out of locations. We got flooded. There were national emergencies. We had to put the crew on hiatus. We were going to go back — and then it happened again."
