Police tracking Proton Wira driver after Axia ends up in ditch on NSE

KUALA LUMPUR: Police are tracking down the driver of a Proton Wira following an incident in which a Perodua Axia lost control and ended up in a ditch along the North-South Expressway.

Bukit Aman Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department (TEID) director Datuk Seri Mohammed Hasbullah Ali said police were looking for the driver to assist in investigations into the incident, which was captured on dashcam and has since gone viral on social media.

He urged anyone with information on the Proton Wira or its driver to come forward and assist police.

"We are tracking down the driver of the Proton Wira involved in the incident and urge anyone with information to come forward and assist us," he said when contacted today.

Hasbullah also reminded motorists against actions on the road that could endanger themselves or other road users.

He advised all motorists to drive cautiously and exercise patience and consideration towards one another, particularly when travelling on highways.

"Road users must always be careful and patient with one another. They should avoid any action that could endanger other motorists."

Hasbullah said motorists should also bear in mind that dashcams were now widely used by road users and could capture incidents on the road.

"In this day and age, many road users have dashcams. Such incidents can be caught on video and the footage can assist police investigations, with appropriate action taken in accordance with the law," he said.

The incident was captured in two dashcam recordings that have been widely shared on social media.

The footage shows the Proton Wira moving into the lane occupied by the Perodua Axia, prompting the Axia driver to take evasive action.

The Axia subsequently loses control, veers off the expressway and ends up in a ditch.

Meanwhile, Nilai police chief superintendent Johari Yahya said the incident occurred between Km270 and Km275 of the NSE.

He said the vehicles were travelling northbound at the time.

Johari said checks initially found that no police report had been lodged over the incident.

However, the investigating officer had since contacted the Axia driver, who would lodge a police report at the Seremban district police headquarters.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
