Egypt to Switch to Winter Time on October 30

Translate

Egypt will turn clocks back by one hour at midnight on Thursday, 29 October, as daylight saving time comes to an end and the country returns to winter time on Friday, 30 October.

The change will move clocks from 12:00 AM back to 11:00 PM on Thursday, giving residents an extra hour as the country transitions to standard time.

Under Law No. 24 of 2023, daylight saving time begins on the last Friday of April and ends on the last Thursday of October each year.

This year, daylight saving time began on Friday, 24 April, when clocks were moved forward by one hour.

Winter operating hours for shops, malls, restaurants, and other businesses are already in effect under regulations set by the Ministry of Local Development.

Under the current rules, restaurants and cafes can remain open until midnight, while shops and malls must close by 10:00 PM on most days, with an extension to 11:00 PM on Thursdays, Fridays, public holidays, and festive occasions. Workshops in residential areas are permitted to operate until 6:00 PM.
