Born Anant Nagarkatte on September 4, 1948, the actor has built a formidable career in Kannada cinema, appearing in over 300 films — more than 250 of them in Kannada. His body of work extends across Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Marathi, Malayalam and English cinema. Outside films, he is widely remembered for the Doordarshan series Malgudi Days, adapted from R.K.
