KUALA LUMPUR: The government is open to making public the full report of a special committee that investigated allegations of share ownership involving former Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki, subject to legal considerations.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said said disclosure would be considered if necessary.

She said any decision must take into account existing legal provisions, particularly those governing personal data protection, the confidentiality of investigation documents, asset declaration records and the interests of relevant parties.

"Any announcement will be made by the Chief Secretary to the Government's Office, as stated in its March 31 media statement, should there be any official developments or decisions that warrant public disclosure.

"The issue of ownership and asset declarations, including Azam's shareholding, has been examined by the Special Investigation Committee established on Feb 13. The same question was also raised on June 25.

"The committee has completed its investigation independently, transparently and professionally, and its findings have been presented to the Cabinet," she said in a written parliamentary reply published on the parliament website today.

She was responding to Khoo Poay Tiong (PH-Kota Melaka), who asked about the committee's findings on allegations concerning Azam's shareholding, any action to be taken against him and whether the government was prepared to make the report public.
