Transport Ministry working to resolve train congestion, technical issues, says Loke

PETALING JAYA: The Transport Ministry is working to address train service congestion and resolve technical issues faced by rail operators, says Transport Minister Anthony Loke.

"Rapid KL is working to address various technical challenges. We will resolve these technical issues to improve the service," he said.

He told reporters this after the ministry's get-together with Tamil media practitioners at Tropicana Golf and Country Resort.

On Oct 30, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim directed the Transport Minister to swiftly resolve train congestion issues, expressing concern that they disrupt the public's daily routine.

The directive followed a complaint by a Threads user to Anwar about overcrowding at train stations.

Meanwhile, Loke said train frequencies were increased during the festive season to encourage more people to use public transport when returning to their hometowns.

He said Electric Train Service (ETS) trips from Kuala Lumpur to states along the west coast, including Kedah and Johor, had received an encouraging response, with additional services scheduled ahead of Deepavali.

"We have added trips ahead of Deepavali, and Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) is working to ensure service frequency is increased so that more people can take the train home," he said.

Earlier, Loke said the event served as a platform to strengthen ties between the ministry and Tamil media practitioners in conjunction with Deepavali.

He said the media played an important role in disseminating information on the ministry's policies and services to all segments of society, including the Indian community.

Close cooperation with media practitioners was also essential to ensure clear communication on road safety, public transport, the Road Transport Department and the aviation sector, he added.
