Clive Owen Joins Anya Taylor-Joy In Netflix Drama ‘How To Kill Your Family’

Clive Owen has joined Anya Taylor-Joy in How to Kill Your Family, the British Netflix drama based on Bella Mackie’s bestselling novel.

Also cast in the show are Orlando Norman and David Shields, who are acting opposite Mad Max: Furiosa star Taylor Joy. She plays the murderous Grace Bernard, the protagonist of Mackie’s book, which Emma Moran is creating for TV.

Per the synopsis, “Grace is the forgotten child of Simon Artemis, a merciless billionaire. After a heartbreaking rejection, Grace decides to exact revenge. But will this deadly scheme take even more from Grace than she’s already lost?”

The show was first announced two years ago at the Edinburgh Television Festival, and the new casting will give the drama fresh impetus.

The series had been subject to a copyright lawsuit, but this was settled last year, as Deadline revealed last year. Studiocanal had taken legal action against Mackie, alleged she had infringed the copyright of Kind Hearts and Coronets, the Ealing Studios comedy the France-based company owns.

Killing Eve maker Sid Gentle is producing the series, with journalist and author Mackie exec producing alongside Emma Moran, Sally Woodward Gentle, Lizzie Rusbridger, Lee Morris and Taylor-Joy through her LadyKiller label.

Comedy commissions

The casting news came during a talk with Netflix at the final Edinburgh Television Festival today, where other program announcements included Marbles, a family comedy series from Friday Night Dinner creator Robert Popper and Big Talk Studios.

Starring Robert Webb (Peep Show), Timothy Spall (The Sixth Commandment), Alexandra Roach (Utopia), Denise Welch (Tip Toe) and Louise Brealey (Such Brave Girls). It will start filming this fall.

Per the synopsis, the “multi-generational comedy” follows a couple “raising ridiculously lively young boys, while caring for ridiculously difficult ageing parents, and coping with the craziness of life in the middle. How do you stop your kids from hiding your keys in a bowl of milk, or sleeping in a cardboard box, while convincing your seventy-five year old father to move out of your bloody house? For Sam and Samantha, this is their life.”
