- An expert panel of the EU drug regulator has endorsed marketing authorization for Eli Lilly’s (LLY) weight loss pill, Foundayo (orforglipron), paving the way for its approval in a market where rival Novo (NVO) holds the first-mover advantage.
- During its October 2026 meeting, the Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) issued a positive opinion on the once-daily therapy for weight management and treatment of type 2 diabetes in adults.
- The CHMP recommendation will next be reviewed by the European Commission (EC) before a final decision on the marketing authorization.
- In July, the EC granted marketing authorization for Novo's (NVO) Wegovy pill, making the once-daily GLP-1 therapy available across 27 EU member states as well as Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein.
