The tall key forward was drafted by the Power in the 2009 rookie draft and promoted to the senior list at the end of that season.
Originally from Victoria, Stewart was recruited from SANFL team North Adelaide after playing for the Eastern Ranges and AFL Queensland club Labrador.
His best AFL return came in the final round of 2010 at Docklands against Richmond, where Stewart kicked four goals in a 10-point win for the Power.
"On behalf of everyone at the Port Adelaide Football Club, I extend our deepest condolences to Daniel's family including his mum Donna, dad Byron, wife Laura, his two sons Bernie and Lando and his brother Leigh," Port Adelaide chief executive Matthew Richardson said in a statement.

The club stated it would honour Stewart by wearing black armbands at their first home game at Adelaide Oval next season.
