SHAH ALAM, Aug 26 — The special holiday declared for Sept 1 to mark Selangor’s overall victory at the 2026 Malaysia Games (Sukma) applies to all federal and state civil servants serving in Selangor.

State Secretary Datuk Dr Ahmad Fadzli Ahmad Tajuddin said the state government encouraged private-sector employers to grant their employees a day off, subject to their discretion and taking into account operational requirements and the continuity of services and business operations.

“The special holiday is implemented under Subsection 9(1) of the Holidays Act 1951 (Act 369), which empowers the state authority to declare any day as a public holiday (special/additional holiday) for the state.

“The victory is also expected to further promote a sporting culture and inspire the people of Selangor to take an active interest in sports and strive for excellence at the highest level,” he said in a statement today.

Meanwhile, he said the state administration extended its highest congratulations and appreciation to the entire Selangor contingent for displaying fighting spirit and discipline in bringing pride to the state throughout Sukma 2026.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari announced the decision at the games’ closing ceremony at Aneka Walk, SA Sentral, here on Monday.

The Selangor contingent recorded a total of 101 gold, 73 silver and 71 bronze medals, exceeding its target of 80 gold medals.

This marks Selangor’s 10th overall Sukma title, following victories in 1988, 1996, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2013 and, most recently, in 2016 in Sarawak. — Bernama
