Northeasterly winds to bring rain to parts of Taiwan over holiday weekend
Seasonal northeasterly winds are expected to bring intermittent rain to northern and eastern Taiwan from Friday through Sunday, while other parts of the country will see cloudy skies with periods of sunshine, a forecaster said Thursday.
During the three-day National Day holiday weekend starting Friday, the greater Taipei area and eastern Taiwan will see more moisture, with heavier rain expected on Sunday, Central Weather Administration (CWA) forecaster Chang Cheng-chuan (張承傳) told CNA.
Areas south of Taoyuan are expected to see partly cloudy to sunny skies, with isolated afternoon showers possible in southern mountainous areas, Chang said.

The weather pattern is expected to persist through next Thursday due to seasonal northeasterly winds, he added.
The lowest temperature is forecast to stay between 22-25 degrees Celsius over the coming week nationwide, with some areas potentially 1-2 degrees cooler, he said.
Daytime highs are expected to reach 28-30 degrees in northern Taiwan and 33-34 degrees in central and southern areas, while some places could see wider day-night temperature differences, he added.
The CWA said Tropical Storm Nolo, the year’s 27th, was about 3,250 kilometers east of Taipei as of 2 p.m. and moving northwest, while Tropical Storm Koguma, the 28th, was about 4,080 kilometers east of Taipei and moving west- northwest.
Neither system is expected to impact Taiwan, and no other tropical systems are forecast to develop over the next week, Chang said.
