Saturday Night Live UK returns with skits mocking Harry, Meghan and Andy Burnham

Saturday Night Live UK has returned for its second series with a sketch mocking the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s return to England, and poking fun at Prime Minister Andy Burnham.

The comedy show opened on Saturday night with a political skit that saw Jack Shep and Ayoade Bamgboye star as Harry and Meghan, visiting the King (Larry Dean) and Queen Camilla (Emma Sidi) at the Balmoral estate.

The sketch centred on Harry and Meghan, who recently returned to live in the UK six years after they stepped back as working royals amid the Megxit crisis and moved to the US.

It kicked off with Harry and Meghan entering Balmoral Castle, with the former exclaiming: “Daddy, I’m home!”

Charles poked fun at their status as non-working royals, joking that the castle is for “royals only”, while Camilla welcomed Meghan and said she is “as brown as ever”.

The sketch seemingly referenced the Duchess’s Netflix lifestyle series With Love, Meghan, as she presented Camilla with a block of ice as a gift while insisting she is a “whizz in the kitchen”.

“It’s true, she hires the best cooks,” Harry quipped.

After the couple announced their move to the UK, Charles said: “Don’t tell me you spent all your Netflix money already.”

Harry responded: “Daddy, it was 60 million dollars. How long was it meant to last? I’m not asking for much.”

The conversation then led into Harry saying he “doesn’t want to be a regular guy” which prompted the appearance of Mr Burnham, played by comedian George Fouracres.

“Did somebody say ‘regular guy’? I’m the new PM and I’m nothing like the last one,” he said.

Several jokes were made about Mr Burnham, who became Prime Minister in July, with one mocking his move from being mayor of Greater Manchester to becoming the MP for Makerfield, which paved the way for him to replace Sir Keir Starmer.

“It was all a bit of a rush, I didn’t catch the name,” Mr Burnham said, prompting Charles to say “Makerfield?”.

Mr Burnham responded: “Maybe I will make a field – I’m going to make all sorts of things.”

The sketch ended with an inspiring speech from Mr Burnham, in which he said: “Like Gary Barlow before me, I’m just a regular man from the north with a dream, a relatable manner and a massive son.”

Following this, Harry and Meghan then decided to be “regular” like Mr Burnham, and the skit closed leading into a musical number performed by this week’s host, Wicked star Jeff Goldblum.

The 73-year-old actor, known for Jurassic Park and Independence Day, also participated in a number of skits during the programme including one about imaginary or “invisible” friends.

He was joined by Irish musician CMAT as the musical guest, who performed tracks including Euro-Country and Stay For Something.

The Sky Original show is broadcast live from London and sees a different host each week alongside the show’s cast.
