It feels like Pokémon Scarlet & Violet didn't come out that long ago, but fans are already clamoring for the new Generation to arrive. While we know that Winds & Waves is on the way and set for 2027, we don't have a release date yet, and things could always change.
After all, five years is a long time to wait between Generations, especially since Sword & Shield to Scarlet & Violet was only a three-year gap, and Sun & Moon to Sword & Shield only took three years too. But there is hope for the future, especially if you're a fan of the Legends series.
Thanks to a new revelation on X, fans are discussing the latest Pokémon Legends title, and there's a lot of division.
X account Centro Leaks recently claimed that a new Pokémon Legends game (the third, after Arceus and Z-A) is coming, and it's allegedly set in the Galar region. Tentatively titled "Project Karasu" internally, which roughly translates to "crow." This is widely expected to be the long-rumored Galar region project, likely set in a new time period.
As expected, fans are all over the place regarding this news: "Why? Galaxy just came out; it's only Gen 8, the one that deserves Legends more than any game. Johto! This is so stupid; no wonder Pokémon fans are jumping to Palworld." Some think it might not even be set in Galar at all: "Could Karasu be Legends Unova? the first result I get when googling Karasu is a Japanese restaurant in New York (which Unova is based on)."
Others hope it isn't: "I agree that Legends Johto would be great. Think about it Gen 8 came out in 2019, which will be about 10 years old (if Legends Galar comes out in 2029). So if someone was 8-9 in 2019, they would be 18-19 in 2029(Meaning that Gen 8 is more nostalgic now than it is new)."
Speaking of currently leaked in-development Pokémon games, it looks like we have some things on the horizon for 2027 and beyond:
- Pokémon Winds & Waves
- Pokémon Pokopia DLC
- Winds & Waves DLC
Allegedly in pre-production due to the giga-leak, Generation 11 and Pokémon Project Seed (the multi-region MMO) are also being worked on. You might notice a huge gap here when it comes to remakes, particularly the Unova Black/White region re-releases. Based on all the leaks we have, it seems Game Freak isn't developing a Gen 5 remake right now, much to the community's chagrin.
Winds & Waves took a little more time than expected, so some projects are falling by the wayside, it seems. Also, Project Seed, described as an MMO that lets players explore multiple regions, is probably a huge undertaking, and it needs to run on Switch 2.
There are decades of Pokémon left in the tank, but for now, remakes don't seem to be a part of the plan. Hopefully that changes, but there's a lot on the way.
