Bella Ramsey's "excellent" comedy-drama with James Norton is now available to watch at home

We may not be able to see Bella Ramsey on The Celebrity Traitors anymore after they were unceremoniously murdered by Maya Jama, James Acaster and Hannah Fry, but don't worry – the actor's new film Sunny Dancer is now available to watch at home.

The plot follows 17-year-old leukaemia survivor Ivy, who wants to spend the summer partying and getting drunk, but is furious to discover her parents are sending her to a summer camp for kids with cancer.

However, as she meets the other campmates, she might end up having the best few weeks of her life.

Alongside Game of Thrones and The Last of Us star Ramsey, the cast includes James Norton, Below star Ruby Stokes, Baby Reindeer's Jessica Gunning, Daniel Quinn-Toye and Neil Patrick Harris. Fellow The Celebrity Traitors season 2 contestant James Blunt also appears in the film as himself.

Behind the camera, The Serpent Queen and A Town Called Malice actor George Jaques penned the script and directed. It's partially based on his own experience, as his father had cancer.

As of today, the film is available to purchase or rent on all the usual digital storefronts, including Prime Video and Apple TV.

The film wasn't a huge box office success, but with an 85% positive score from 41 critic reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, it looks like this one is a bit of a hidden treasure.

"Sunny Dancer is an excellent comedy starring Bella Ramsey, backed by a fantastic, witty cast of young performers and a few veterans. This is a gem of a film that should be sought out by all", Next Best Picture said.

RogerEbert.com said that Ramsey was "luminous" in the role, and that Norton and Gunning were "both terrific in brief bookending scenes".

"The film lets its teenagers behave like real teenagers and see them as more than cancer survivors, rediscovering their joy and zest for life", wrote Flickering Myth, while Radio Times dubbed it "a colourful, carefree and compassionate work".
