‘SNL U.K.’ Spoofs Oasis as Russian Hackers Who Trick Prime Minister Andy Burnham by Asking Him to Join the Band

Oasis and British Prime Minister Andy Burnham were at the heart of a surreal cold open in the third episode of “Saturday Night Live U.K.” Season 2, where the iconic Manchester-based duo turned out to be a Russian psyop stealing Burnham’s personal details.

The sketch started with Burnham (George Fouracres) proudly reflecting on a recent speech at the UN in New York to Secretary of State Angela Rayner (Celeste Dring).

“It’s just like Manchester, except the trams go underground,” he said.

“I tell you what, you absolutely smashed that speech to the UN,” Rayner responded. “About time someone stood up to Russia. They hate us because we have freedom and Greggs.”

“I’m sick of Russia trying to divide us people,” Burnham said. “We can divide ourselves, thank you very much.”

Liam (Jack Shep) and Noel Gallagher (Freddie Meredith) from Oasis then appeared and asked Burnham whether he could fill in for Liam playing the guitar at their next gig due to an injury. Burnham agreed and was asked to hand over his personal details, to which he gleefully agreed. Almost immediately, Noel and Liam Gallagher started donning Russian accents..

“Oasis is and has always been Russian psyop,” said Noel.

With the threat that the U.K. will now become a Russian puppet state, Burnham does not give in. “Just because you have the power to do something, doesn’t mean you should. I, for example, could hold a general election tomorrow and easily smash it,” Andy said. “But as I announced yesterday, I won’t do. And I could. Maybe I should. And I will. But I won’t. Unless I do. Which I won’t. Unless I do. And that is true leadership.”

“What do you think, comrade?” asks Noel.

“Maybe” responded Liam.

Asked by Burnham to speak up, Noel responds to the tune of “Wonderwall”: “I said mayyyybeeee.”
